Filipino Pride is Sky High
No less than SIX of the Top Ten in the competition were from The Philippines. Places 1, 3, 5, 8, 9 and 10 were all local poker players and between them they shared more than US$283k.
The US$2,500 buy-in event took place at the Resorts World Manila in Pasay City and Del Prado finally triumphed after a hard fought final.
Growing Online Poker Market
The Philippines is growing its reputation as a 'must visit' location for luxurious poker breaks. The Asian Poker Tour's soirée in Manilla can only raise the profile of The Philippines as an international poker venue.
Poker on the Move
Land based and online poker are both popular pastimes in the Philippines. Philweb, who are the largest listed internet company in the Philippines, are said to be interested in developing mobile gambling in the local market. This is because of the prevalence of mobile phones compared to home computers. With online poker a global favorite of web gamblers, this market should certainly be hot over the coming years.
